The mood for Salvador Late or Early is stressful and depressing. Every morning Salvador is in charge of bringing his younger brothers and himself to school. He also needs to make sure his brothers aere out of harms way. It is depressing in the beginning when the story talks about the houses in Salvador's neighborhood being Gray like a stormy sky. You also feel a great sense of poverty. When they talk about him entering the "raw wood doorway" and his wrinkled shirt. This short story makes me feel bad for Salvador. He doesn't even have friends at school. The main mood for the story is sadness.
In Salvador Late or Early the mood is responsibility and depression. It shows responsibility when Salvador wakes up every morning to take care of his siblings. He takes them to the schoolyard, and picks up after them as i saw when he had to pick up the load of crayons. As far as this story goes it doesn't mention any parents, or if he does have parents they let him do all the work. The depression is there not only for mostly the same reasons, but for the way it was written. you can sense the sadness by the way the author describes everything. bringing the kids to school, and when he describes the neighborhood. Because of the way his town was described you can tell that there isn't enough money to go around in the family, or even the whole town. But the most obvious sign of depression is Salvador himself. He has a life or work with no friends, no break, and no sympathy. The signs of depression are linked to the signs of responsibility, because maybe if he didn't have so much responsibility he wouldnt be so depressed.
The mood of Salvador Late or Early is sad, and somewhat tense. The narrator describes him as "no one's friend." which is somewhat depressing. Just from the first paragraph, he is described as not very memorable, with crooked teeth, and crooked hair. The narrator tells us that he helps with his brothers, because his mother is dealing with the baby. He takes care of his brothers, and the trouble they get into, making his life stressful. He seems like he is in poverty, and seems stressed about this. Salvador is even described as "too small to contain the hundred balloons of happiness." This all connects to the mood of the story, which is morose.
I think the moods of Salvador Late or Early would be sadness and responsibility. Sadness because he doesnt have any friends and that he is basically a nobody in school. From the way the author describes his life, no one really wants to be with him and that he lives in a poor town. He also has to take care of his siblings which would be n example of responsibility and sadness. Responsibility because he takes them to school, feeds them, and cleans up thier mess sometimes. His mom doesnt help much because she is busy with thte baby. That would be the sad part. Another thing is that the author doesnt even mention his father so I am assuming he doesnt have one. The main mood would be sadness because that is what the uthor mentions and describes the most.
the mood for salvador late and early is clearly a very sad mood. salvador seems to have difficulties in the morning and keeping his brother safe. i agree with katherina on the fact that the neighborhood is another subject that adds to the emotion and mood of sadness. the way it is described make you feel like you know that something is wrong there. that salvadors life is surrounded by sadness and poverty and the fact that he is all alone in his world.
The mood for Salvador Late or Early is suffering and sadness. The worst possible life feelings we could imagine. The first paragraph describes a boy who's name is not remembered by his teacher, a boy who has no friends, a boy who is responsible for his brothers, And a boy who lives in an poor neighborhood. But the main example of his hard life is "inside the throat that must clear itself and apologize each time it speaks." This is an extremely power full quote. This is saying every time he opens his mouth to make a comment in school or where ever he is he has to apologize for what he says. The quote continues "Inside that forty pound body of boy with its geography of scars , its history of hurt." This blatantly states that he has a history of hurt. That means he has been hurt more than once and it sounds like it continues day after day after day. Sadness, suffering and depression are the main moods from this particular story
It seams like the mood that is set in Salvador Late or Early is very unhappy and gloomy. Salvador seams like his life is very monotonous. Every morning Salvador has to wake up and help his two younger brothers get dressed and go to school. He is only forty pounds so he cant be much older than five or six years old and already has so much responsibility between taking care of his brothers and his own personal life you, can tell he doesn't have any friend because he has a really hard because in the story is says"...inside that forty-pound boy with its geography of scars, its history of hurt...". all this creates the feeling of sadness.
The mood in "Salvador Late or Early" is sad. In his household Salvador is like a parent. He helps his mother and takes care of his younger siblings. It says in the story that he combs their hair, wakes them up, ties their shoe laces, feeds them, and takes them to school every morning. The mood in this story is almost Why bother, it doesn't matter any way or what’s the point of life if nothing matters. The title, "Salvador Late or Early" gives off a saddened, slow, and negative vibe. It seems as though Salvador gives and gives, but doesn't get back half of what he has given. He is so busy taking care of everyone else that he has no time for coming his own hair and basics like that. The teacher doesn’t even give him enough thought or respect to remember his name. In all Salvador seems like an unhappy and semi depressed child with a slow moving and monotonous life, he doesn’t give his life enough thought to care what goes on in it, for example being late or early to school.
Sadness and depression is kind of the main moods in Salvador Late or Early because he was described as being the guy who has no friends, who's teacher doesn't remember his name. Its really sad that his life is like that, full of poverty and depressing moments. He is the big brother and big brothers help their mom, help with his other siblings and its a hard job to do at an age being so young. In the story it read " with its geography of scars, its history of hurt" it seems like he gets hurt and that could be one of the reasons he is depressed and sad.
In Salvador Late or Early there are two different moods. The story begins as a very depressing, gray, colored. The reason why I think that the story is gray colored is because it says that he is a boy with no friends. He is the one who is lonely and poor. He lives behind a raw wood doorway and he feeds his brothers cereal from a tin cup. He has to take care of his brothers - he takes them to school everyday. He is like a person you’re used to seeing everyday but don’t notice. He is anonymous. He is a person who gets his feelings hurt and no one cares. He has a geography of scars and a history of hurt. Also the author uses very gray descriptive words like “the color of bad weather” or “in the dim dark of the morning”. Both are very gray.
Then the story changes mood. The mood is no longer gloomy, but has changed to a brighter tone. I think this because it starts to talk about brighter things like his body is too small to contain the hundreds of balloons of happiness. I think that means that he is happy even though life is not easy. Then there is the part that talks about how he walks into a bright horizon . He “grows small and smaller to the eye, dissolves into a bright horizon.” This gives me a clue that even though everyone else thought that he had a horrible life he thought of his life as heaven. Then he disappears from view.
The mood in Salvador Late or Ealry is sadness and responsibilty. He has to take care of he's little brothers with the little supplies that he's family has. He is not able to be a kid he has the responsibilty of a parent. He has no friends because all he does is care to his brothers. I agree with Katherina about the sense of poverty and the way they described their town, the door,"raw wood doorway", what they eat in, how there clothing looks, and where they put their supplies. When they described the crayons in a cigar box I think really shows how hes family is stuggling with money. This short story showed the responsibilty of a child and the poverty of hes family.
The mood for Salvador Late or Early seems very dark and in the doldrums. The reason I say that is because the way the narrator describes this story is with descriptive somber emotion . I agree with Katherina when she said "you feel a great sense of poverty." And you can tell by the first few sentences " Salvador of the crooked hair and crooked teeth." Just by that sentence you can feel Salvador isn't in the best situation. It seems as though Salvador is invisible, for example when the teacher doesn't remember his name. I do agree with Brianna. It seems like Salvador was being hurt, But physically and mentally and I think he is still haunted with memories of being in pain.
Salvador Late or Early shows the sad life that Salvador leads. He wakes up in the morning, helps his mother with his siblings and tries to get everything organized. He is just a child but already has the responsibilities of an adult. He doesn't have friends and the story states that he is easily forgettable in the classroom. His life consists very simply of helping his mother. He doesn't have childhood fun, he doesn't play or have friends. His life is quiet and sad. He takes on the role of an adult figure and plays that role well for his siblings.
The mood in the story Salvador Late or Early is very sad and lonely. I got the sense he is poor from the words in the story "he runs along somewhere in that vague direction where houses are the color of bad weather" and he "lives behind a raw wood doorway". He has to get up early in the morning and feed his brothers from a tin can and take them to school where he has no friends. His mother, too busy with a baby,is not in his life very much and seems neglectful because she is not helping him with his brothers. He seems very insecure and sad because he apologizes every time he speaks. His body, a "geography of scars", has a "history of hurt"; this communicates the sense that he might be abused.
The mood of this story or poem is a very depressing mood. Salvador is a kid that does not have a good life he has to take care of his brothers while his mom takes care of the baby. He has to take wake up and dress and cook for his brothers. In this poem it says that Salvador is the kid that the teacher cant remember his name this is a symbol of him feeling like no one cares about him he feels like knows about his existence.
In the short story, Salvador Late or Early, the mood is depressing. Salvador seems like an outsider. He has no friends and to his mom, he comes second in the family, where his younger brothers come first.
Part of the depression comes from all the responsibility Salvador has to go through. He has to keep an eye on his younger brothers at all times and has to take them to school. All of this responsibility does not allow him to be social with people, and causes him to be an outsider. No one notices him. They don't notice him because he has to take care of his brothers.
This town looks very poor too, which is another factor of the mood being depressing. Salvador's mother seems likes she works all day, which makes Salvador have a non social life. "Where homes are the color of bad weather." and "Lives behind a raw wood doorway." are two good examples of the town's poorness, or rather the part of town Salvador's family lives in. He also doesn't eat which is another example showing that there is a scarce amount of food, and that the town is poor.
nkeyrapSalvador Late or Early has been described by the blog as depressing and sad and I agree but not whole heartedly. I think, yes it is depressing, but in a way since its a short story it leaves you thinking there is more. To me, I think something is waiting to happen in the future. Not to say that is necessarily true, but I think it is a possibility. The overall tone of this passage is pretty gloomy. Salvador is in charge of his little brothers when he himself seems not to old. Poor Salvador cooks breakfast and helps with the new baby. Though it is a classic story, I consider it unique because of the writing. I really think this is a great short story.
I believe that Salvador late or early does have the tone that expresses the depressing and poverty-like state of Salvador’s life. A reader would convey this feeling from the story because it seems that Salvador’s life is filled with non-stop responsibility at a young age, thus having no time for him to freely do as he pleases. “Home are the color of bad weather, lives behind raw wood doorway” is a phrase from Salvador late or early that touches upon the fact that his town most likely does not have many materials to accessorize their homes, hence making their town feel empty and sparse. The words “scars” and “history” are two very powerful words that also very permanent, because both history and scars will stay with one forever no matter where one is. “Inside that forty-pound body of a boy with its geography of scars, its history of hurt” shows that there have been many complications and unfortunate incidents that had occurred in Salvador’s life. But I also believe, like Donyaeh, that Salvador late or early does have a slight tone of optimism towards the end of the chapter. I disagree with Kira when she says that the quote “inside that body too small to contain the hundred balloons of happiness” is one that describes a feeling of “morose” or depression. Because following this excerpt that was taken from Salvador late or early says “the single guitar of grief, is a boy like any other disappearing out the door”. Making the entire quote “inside that body too small to contain the hundred balloons of happiness, the single guitar of grief, is a boy like any other disappearing out the door,” I feel that this quote in its entirety is a sign of hopefulness because it is insinuating that he has a hundred balloons of happiness and even though his small body cannot hold all of them, he only has a single guitar of grief. In addition, the last part of the quote explains that he is exiting a door as “a boy like any other” meaning that even though he has to take on many more responsibilities than others his age, he still has the time to lead a partial life of normalcy. -Janet

The mood in Salvador late or early is sadness and responsibility. In the story it seems he has to always take care of his brothers and try to let them live with what they have. The description the author puts in of Salvadors life there is a hard stuggling life that's hidden to the world. It sets a gloom to the story and gives sadness knowing that he has to take care of his brothers at such a young age and give up so much of his time and life for them.
The mood for "Salvador Late or Early" is sad but you see what it is like to be a strong family and the responsibilities Salvador has to take on. It is sad because he lives a bad life in poverty with "crooked hair and crooked teeth." He has scars and has a "history of hurt." Salvador is living in a small house with a lot of people with bad hygiene. Salvador has no friends and the teacher can't remember his name. He lives a sad life.
You can feel the sense of family Salvador shares though. Salvador has to take care of his younger brothers while his mom is taking care of a baby. Family is about helping each other when you need help. You see this is a strong family because they go through so much. They are living in poverty and have many kids to take care of but they get through it.
In Salvador Late or Early, the atmosphere oozes neglect and abuse. Salvador is the embodiment of pain in this short story. Assuming he is the oldest, Salvador has been forced into being the closest thing his younger brothers can think of as a father, rather than the brother he is. “Inside that forty-pound body of a boy with its geography of scars, its history of hurt”, this quote is what leads me to believe he has been physically abused. By whom? A story that is already saddening, fortunately, doesn’t tell.
The mood of Salvador Late to Early is stressful and kind of sad. He has to do everything for his brothers. Comb their hair, tie their shoes, give them food, all because his mom is busy with the baby. The story doesn't say anything about his dad. He follows his brothers to school, have to make sure they are waiting for him. He lives in hte poor part of the city, everything is gray and sad. He is kind of an outsider, no one is with him at school, everyone he got is his yonger brothers and his mom, who is busy.
