CURIOUS INCIDENT... Blog Post 2

In Chapter 107, we learn that Christopher's favorite book is The Hound of the Baskervilles. Why is he so drawn to this book? What does his love of it say about his personality and about the way his mind works?

The Hound of Baskervilles is a Sherlock Holmes story. The mystery is a murder of Sir Charles Baskerville, inheriting a curse from his ancestors. He is drawn to the story by the incredible logic put into making the book. He also is drawn to the Red Herrings, clues that lead to another conclusion or false clues. I think he likes the Red Herrings with the fact of the word red in it. Christopher's love for logic is what draws him to the book. The clues of the story draw him as he has to make inferences himself. This tells us that Christopher's personality is around logic. He feels most comfortable around straight-forward answers. This mentality forces him to make his own decisions. This part dissuades him in likings of the story. He doesn't understand unsimplified vocabulary/language. He can make out more complex ideas, even if they are vague, as long as it is simplified.vvvvvvv

I presume that Christopher is drawn to “The Hound of the Baskervilles” Not only
because of the logic behind it, but because of the connection he feels between himself and
Sherlock Homes. The image of a person who is just as logical [ if not as eccentric] as Christopher
is fulfilling a deep desire in Christopher. An esoteric child like Christopher has little chance for an understanding relationship with anyone. But Christopher sees something of himself in the
cunning brawny figure of Sherlock Homes, and it is not surprising that he would be drawn to
someone [ or something] that is a mimic of his characteristics.

Christopher is so drawn to The Hound of the Baskervilles because it is about Sherlock Holmes, who is a detective, and Christopher can relate to Sherlock Holmes in many ways. I agree with Ian and Nicholas also, that the Sherlock Holmes book revolves around logic, which Christopher is very interested in. I think this book influenced him to be a detective to find the killer of the dog, because he loves dogs, and he simply loves Sherlock Homes. One example of how Christopher and Sherlock relate is that Sherlock has "the power of detaching his mind at will" and Christopher, when he is doing an activity mostly math, he can not get distracted, and that he is highly concentrated.

Christopher is like a detective in real life becuase he wants to figure out who killed Wellington. Reading Hound of the Baskervilles which is a Sherlock Holmes story just tells the reader that he really likes mysteries, puzzles, and really anything that includes solving out a problem. Christopher and Sherlock really relate to each other because of they both solve mysteries and like a little adventure and twist in life. They are both curious and want to solve problems out. Logic is also something because Christopher is really into logic and Sherlock Holmes uses logic a lot.

Christopher is so drawn to the Hound of Baskervilles because it is a mystery and it includes Sherlock Holmes. Sherlock Holmes seems to be one of his favorite characters. Christopher likes him so much because he said that he would be just like him if he were a detective. He also says that he notices a lot of details like himself and they are both intelligent. So basically they have a lot in common. The other thing that Chris likes is the fact that it is a very good mystery book, meaning that it always keeps you guessing. He loves books like that and he is also writing a mystery book of his own based on the murder of Wellington. This shows that Christopher likes people very much if they have a lot in common with him, if they are intersting, or are heroes.

I think Christopher likes the hound of the Baskervilles because of the logic in it, mystery novels in general are mainly logic and facts. Clues are information gathered and the conclusion is the culmination of these facts. I think Christopher likes the book also because of the false information/red herrings. False information is a part of science, and this is another part he likes.

The fact that he likes mystery novels and facts shows that Christopher is a very logical person. He thinks that everything should have a scientific purpose and should always have an answer discovered by science.

I agree with Ian that He can figure out complex ideas, but they have to be simplified.

there are a few reasons for the love christopher has for this book. one is that it is a mystery and there is detective work which he enjoys and he wants to be. he drawn by the puzzles and problems that are shown in the book. another reason is the main character. he enjoys stories about Sherlock Holmes because he understands Sherlock Holmes. christopher is very complex and sees the world in his own way. he and Sherlock Holmes have a lot in common. this tells the reader more about how christopher sees religion, science, and how he loves problems and detective work. christopher in a way wants to be Sherlock Holmes and in fact he sort of is.

Sherlock Holmes is a role model for Christopher in his detective work, and also someone that he feels he can relate too. Sherlock Holmes is intelligent and logical, as is Christopher. He is drawn to mystery novels because for the most part they are heavily based on fact and logic. As we know, Christopher doe not like metaphors or vague language which many other novels use more then mystery. Mystery novels are also like a puzzle or a math problem to Christopher, they can be solved if you fit the pieces of the puzzle or the clues together. Math is safe for Christopher, he knows that he is good at it and he knows that it can be figured out like mystery novels.

I believe that Christopher likes mysteries because they can always be solved. If one is attentive, finds all the clues, and uses logic, the mystery will inevitably be solved. There is a rhythm, and procedure of a sort to solve a mystery. Christopher likes the logical aspects of mysteries. He also identifies with the main character, Sherlock Holmes, for various reasons, one of which is that they both posses the ability to deatach their minds at will in order to concentrarte.

The fact that Christopher idolizes a character whos profession deals massively with logic shows that he would like to mature to have a position that deals with logic in similar amounts. Christopher's book reveals that he would like a future in mathematics or science, both which logic is a large part of.

I think one of the main reasons that Christopher like the book The Hound of the Baskervilles is that he likes Sherlock Holmes. I think Christopher feels mostly like he is different from everybody else and that he does not fit in, but Christopher feels that he has something in common with Sherlock Holmes. I think Christopher and Sherlock Holmes have many things in common; two of the main things they have in common is that they both like solving mysteries and they both notice the "obvious things which nobody by any chance ever observes." I think Christopher likes the Sherlock Holmes book because he likes the logic involved with solving mysteries and he also likes the character, Sherlock Holmes, and how much Christopher and Sherlock have in common.

In the chapters that we read it said that Christopher loves math because of the love of solving problems. Christopher really loves mystery also. The Hound Of The Baskervilles is a mystery book which also incorporates problem solving. Mystery and problem solving are two really big parts of Christopher's personality to me. I think Christopher is really drawn to this book for 2 reasons. 1: This book makes Christopher engaged. He finds these kinds of books amazing. 2: He wants to solve a mystery. To me, this book makes him more curious about the mystery that's going on in his life with wellington.

The reason that The Hound of the Baskervilles is Christopher's favorite book because the contents of the book have a lot to do with logic, mystery, puzzles and problem solving in a logical way. These things Christopher is good at and he enjoys to do. Christopher bases his ideas and beliefs around logic and he can relate this book to himself on a more personal level. Mystery books like these are very understandable and relate-able to Christopher. The mysterious aspect of this book also connects to the mystery of Wellington;s murder, which grasps his attention.

Christopher seems to be drawn to the Hound of Baskervilles because it has the safeness of math. There are many connections to the problem solving of the mysteries Sherlock Holmes solves and the mysteries of math. Christopher enjoys this because he has the ability to notice things to solve the problems that only Sherlock Holmes seems to notice. I also think Christopher is drawn to this book because he has much in common with Sherlock Holmes. He mentions that Sherlock Holmes notices things to solve mysteries that he does to. The business of the story and the multiple clues that are only figured out by Holmes is much like the way Christopher's brain works.

I feel like we learn that Christopher's brain is busy, and almost the most risky part of his life. The safeness of math and problem solving in general lets Christopher feel acomplished without harming himself, whereas the business of his mind can get him into trouble. The relation between Sherlock and Christopher and the business and curiousity of there minds brings an almost brotherhood to the two, though one person is fictional. This comforts Christopher because i feel that he is constantly chastised, and the fact that there is someone similar to him with the same mind-hecticness, and ability to notice the smallest details, gives him comfort.

I think he likes this book because he can relate to it. He can relate to Sherlock Holmes because he is a detective and that is something that Christopher is trying to do. In the book, Sherlock is trying to figure out who killed Sir Charles. In Christopher's life, he is trying to figure out Wellington. He also admires Sherlock because he is a great detective which is something Christopher would like to be. He thinks that him and Sherlock Holmes are alike. They both like detective work and they both get really get into something if they like it. He likes this book because it is a bit of a challenge to him. He doesn't understand some words and he likes to look them up in the dictionary. This makes him feel smart once he knows a new word.
We also learn more about Christopher and logic. We know that Sherlock Holmes bases his detective work on logic and so does Christopher. This means he can really relate to Sherlock and this book probably makes him feel like there are people that work the same way as him.

Christopher can relate to this story because of the logic that is contained within The Hound of the Baskervilles. It is a whodunit story. It also has possibilities and solutions for the case of Wellington because it is a murder mystery story. He seems to be very fastened on figuring out solutions to the murder from what we have been reading. The fact that this book is his favorite reveals to us that his mind sees the world as a sum of bits and pieces. Life in his mind is a jigsaw puzzle consisting of clues rather than pieces.

Christopher likes Sherlock Holmes because he is logical and solves things that do not make sense. Christopher likes detective work because it helps him understand things with logic and reason. Christopher wants to be just like Sherlock Holmes and Christopher admires Sherlock Holmes because he notices details, solves problems, and is very intelligent which is a lot like Christopher. Christopher can relate to him because he is in the middle of the mystery of Wellington's death. Christopher said that if he were going to be a detective he would be like Sherlock Holmes.

The book The hound of the Baskervilles is Christopher's favorite book because he feels that he can relate to it. The ways that he can relate to it is because he says that he can relate to Sherlock Holmes. He says that he can detach his mind from things like Sherlock Holmes he mentions himself playing chess and how he wins because he does not lose concentration. He also mentions when he does something that is interesting to him that he can detach his mind. Christopher says that when he is doing math or science that he is so detached that he does not listen to anything anybody says.

Christopher likes the Sherlock Holmes story, THE HOUND OF BASKERVILLES, because he likes Sherlock Holmes. Holmes is a very logical person alot like himself and he can piece together past information and explain a problem or mystery with the information he drew from the crime. In the recent movie Sherlock Holmes, the end of the movie was Holmes and Watson explaining the whole crime through things they saw and information they gained. It shows that Christopher is deep in his thinking and that he can put things together if they are not set in stone, which is a huge contradiction to his disposition. His disposition is when everything is figured out and makes sense. Sherlock Holmes is a complicated man. Christopher has a complicated brain. I think Christopher is drawn to the book because the similarities between Holmes and himself.

I think he is really drawn to this book because it is not your typical mystery but it also has a logical spin on it. The fact that they think these werewolf type creatures at Sir Hugo Baskerville was simply to fictitious for Sherlock Holmes, and eventually they do find out it was all a very good plan too disguise the hounds. I think Christopher likes the idea of things that seem unreal but are logical. I think his love of this book shows that he has a very adventurous personality and enjoys adventure stories and seeks inspiration at alot of points.

Christopher has a particular interest and love for "The Hound of the Baskervilles" because it's all about solving problems, figuring out riddles and puzzles, and it's a story where in the end, there is a solution and answer. Christopher's choice of love and interest in "The Hound of the Baskervilles" shows his need for a planned out way to live or know. He creates himself a whole plan and pattern for his daily life. For example the number of colored cars and how he planned out that after a row of two black days, he could close his eyes on the way to school. The way his mind thinks, needs a steady base with a plan, pattern, and solid way to work and live by. Christopher wants a solution and answer for everything. That is why "The Hound of the Baskervilles" is his favorite book, It is all about the things he wants in his life and tries to pursue, a life that has answers and a solution at the end which he can figure out.

it says that Christopher loves a great mystery and things that have straight answers. being that he has autism he likes things to be very plain. so to have a book with a predictable plot is comforting to Christopher. the Sherlock Holmes book is one that Christopher feels that he can connect with because both Sherlock and Christopher are both mis-understood.they also have different ways of doing things with different kinds of logic. for example Christopher likes the color red and bases his day on the amount of red he sees. Sherlock is this way too. for example Sherlock in this particular book decides that he is going to ignore that status quo and go on a private investigation. this is why i think. this book shows relation to Christopher's mind and personality.

Christopher really likes this book because he thinks he is similar to Sherlock Holmes, because in the quote that he pulled out about detaching his mind at will, Christopher thought that that was what he does too while reading or playing chess because he doesn’t lose concentration like the opponent would, which would make him win. Another reason why Christopher likes the book The Hound of Baskervilles is because it’s a detective book and he is trying to write a detective book and he is investigating just like Sherlock Holmes and the other people in the book are investigating.

Hi All,

Sorry this is coming in at the last minute--we lost our internet connection last night.....

Christopher likes the Hound of the Baskervilles because he likes detective work and he likes using logic, which allows him to solve cases like Sherlock Holmes . In detective work, Sherlock can only go on the evidence and inferences based on the evidence, or he would prosecute the wrong people. Christopher likes Sherlock’s approach to logic and sociology because Christopher is unable to understand emotion and non-logical things. A detective can’t bring emotion in his or her work because it might be misleading. Because of his autism, Christopher also fears that emotions will mislead him.

Also, just like Christopher, Holmes doesn’t believe in legend, superstition or religion because he doesn’t find them logical. (Christopher doesn’t like the Arthur Conan Doyle, the author of the Sherlock Holmes books, because he is superstitious.) Christopher has no lack of faith—he just doesn’t see how there could be a heaven. This system of logic, which rejects all superstition, is exactly what Sherlock Holmes follows.

Christopher is drawn to this book, because he sees himself in Sherlock Holmes, and he dislikes strangers so it’s much easier for him to relate to a book who’s main character is similar to himself.

Christopher was drawn to the book The Hound of the Baskervilles because it was a sherlock Holmes detective book. In this book you would hear what sherlock did but he could also figure it out himself. This helped him become more focused on detail and was a sort of training course for being a detective. He loves this book because it is all about logic and in the end everything is explained for him if he hasn't done it already. In this book there is a logical answerer for everything which is how Christopher wishes life was. This also shows how much of a detective mind he actually has. He always pays so much attention to detail and that is what will make him a great detective.

The Hound of the Baskervilles is a detective story. Christopher obviously wants to be a detective like Sherlock Holmes, so he can relate somewhat to Sherlock. Just like Jack's, Ian's and Nicholas's points explained that Christopher is very interested in logie, I agree. The book is actually full of logic. The titile of the book somewhat remind of the title of this book. They both have something to do with dogs. Christopher absolutely loves dogs, so perhaps this is such a book that can inspire one to chase after either something or someone. Christopher is someone that is very concentrated on things that you can not distract him from. He has promised not to do any of this "detective work", but he is still determined to continue.

Christopher is drawn to the Hound of the Baskervilles because it is about being a detective and based on a mystery. He uses this book as a guide for his own mystery about Mrs. Shears dead dog. He loves applying logic to his everyday life, and enjoys to investigate. So this book gets his mind to be imaginative and feel as if he's in the book. This books drives him more to figure out the case of the dog, he has to use logic and patterns to figure out the case. His personality is based on logic and he likes to discover patters as well as complications, so him figuring out the dogs case and reading this book is a relief from his reality.

Christopher loves this book because it's a mystery, and it have to be solved with logic. Christopher relates to Sherlock Holems in a way, almost like Sherlock Holmes is one Christopher looks up to. He only likes logical things, so he likes Sherlock, because he thinks everything have to have a logical explanation.

cristopher really has deep connections to this book. he likes it because it is like a puzzle and it can be loved with logic. there are no hidden meanings. he also really likes the red herrings which are clues that seem to be really important but end of amounting to nothing and are only there to get you sidetracked from the real criminal. i think that this is really important in this story because cristopher is trying to solve a mystery himself through logic. it also connects because this book is a mystery about dogs and it contradicts everyone saying that they aren't important.

We learn that Christopher has a passion for solving mysteries, math equations, dogs and the color red. However, in Chapter 107, we learn that Christopher has a specific kind of detective that he adores, Sherlock Holmes. I think Christopher 'praises' Holmes because of his brave detectiveness and his detective skills. I think that Christopher almost thinks hes 'God', and this seems interesting because he never really worships anyone or agrees with the fact that there is religion. I think that Christopher loves mysteries because it keeps his brain going on and on, and the fact that Christopher has no emotional feelings, his curiousity replaces that. Therefore, being curious for him is always a thrill because that means he as another problem to solve.

Christopher is drawn to The Hound of Baskervilles because it has a lot red-herrings and clues in it. Clues and problem-solving are very logical for Christopher. His love for The Hound of Baskervilles shows that he likes detective work and solving puzzles. He uses the aspects of the story in his book and search for the murder of Wellington and his own mystery novel. He compares Holmes to himself. Christopher says that Holmes observes the smaller things in life like he does. I think that this is true because Christopher always is always so literal and pays attention to almost every detail that he can find. Like when he gives the time or his age.

The Hound of Baskervilles is a book in the Sherlock Holmes series. Christopher is so drawn to this book because it is about looking at clues and turning them into facts which Christopher is ever so aware of doing. We do this everyday without even noticing, but Christopher notices. We see a coat on the hanger and know some ones home. He sees a the 3 red cars and that is a clue to him that it is going to be a 'Super Good Day!' He turns clues into facts with thinking through it, we don't notice it anymore. He can really relate to the book now because he is doing detective work himself. He can also relate to all the death because of his mom. maybe he loves these books because it was the only way he could show emotion for his moms 'death' other then just listing all the possible ways she could have died/ different type of heart attacks. Bottom line Christopher loves how clues can turn into facts and that whole process.

I think Christopher is drawn to the The Hound of the Baskervilles is because he can really relate to Sherlock Holmes. In the book there is a quote from Sherlock Holmes that says "The world is full of obvious things which nobody by any chance ever observes." But he notices them, like I do" than Christopher launches into a detailed explanation on why Sherlock Holmes and him are a like. Christopher also likes The Hound of the Baskervilles because it is a mystery book and it ends with an answer. Christopher likes to think that life is like a very complex math problem, which is why he likes The Hound of the Baskervilles, because it has an answer at the end.

Christopher enjoys the hound of Baskervilles because it is a mystery. He clearly likes mysteries because he is writing a mystery book about a real life situation. I also think that he enjoys reading mysteries because when the book is drawing to a close, it always reveals a reason for why certain events had occurred. Christopher also likes the hound of Baskervilles because he likes Sherlock Holmes and feels like he can relate to him. He believes that if he were a real detective hen he would be a lot like Sherlock Holmes, mainly because they are both intelligent. The fact that Christopher likes this book shows that he reads the types of books that make the answers clear and really straight forward. In mysteries there is a certain reassurance that all the questions will be answered after the last page if done with being read; I believe that Christopher likes this consistency. Christopher feels that he can relate to Sherlock Holmes because they have a lot in common. He feels as if they share the same mission as a detective. He thinks they share the same views on religion and super natural things. This is a comfort to Christopher. But in a way liking mystery books is a contradiction to who he is, because he likes predictability. And usually mysteries are very unpredictable.

Christopher said he enjoyed murder mystery novels in the beginning of the book. He likes them because they have puzzles unlike “proper novels”, and he enjoys figuring those puzzles out. In “proper novels” there are descriptions that require certain thoughts to understand. Christopher’s brain, however, cannot process these thoughts therefore he cannot understand what is going on in “proper novels”.
