In Chapter 6 Scout has a realization: "It was then, I suppose, that Jem and I first began to part company," (p 56). What does this mean? What is this realization in relation to? What change does this signal in their relationship?
I think that this means Scout and Jem are very close and are never usually far apart,so when Jem says that he is going to get his pants Scout means that they had never been that far apart. even if it is only a couple blocks. when I say that Scout and Jem are never far apart i don't mean i a phisical term I mean mentally far apart.
i agree with eleanor. part company means that two people part. in real life siblings start to part when they get older and less dependent on each other they feel that this person is not there only friend anymore they know that they can go places without them and be part company.
I think Scout meant that she and Jem started to think differently. I think that Jem started to grow independant and Scout still thinks that Jem and her are always going to be together. I think this signal in their relationship means that they are growing less dependant to each other and they are going to start thinking differently more often.
I think this means that Scout has always been close but finds herself growing away from Jem. I think this could be because Jem finds Scout following him a lot and wants his own space. for Jem this is good and for Scout it is not.
i agree with everyone i think she is sayig that she is very close to her brother and that she wants them to always be close and she doesnt want him to go get his pants because it might be dangoures.
I think this means that Scout and jem are starting to have different oppinions and this is hurting their relationship. for example when Jem goes to get his pants scout tries to stop him and he gets annoyed. As he tries to explain his prediciment Scout only cares about him not getting killed. she says that she didnot always understand jem but it was usualy for a short wile. apperently she could not understand what was going on.
