Heracles' relationship with Admetus shows that Heracles is very caring for others. It shows that he is very brave and helpful and will help others with personal problems. It also shows how Heracles can help a friend.

The ideas it is presenting on how to be a hero in Greece is saying that you should care for others. It also shows that you must do things alone but share the credit.

Hi it's Kai W

Heracles' relationship with Admetus is incredibly strong. They seem to be the best of friends. Both are respectful to one another and their bond is hardly breakable. Heracles' fought with death to bring back Alcestis so that his friend would no longer mourn. He is extremely loyal and devoted, these are two more heroic qualities that Heracles possesses. Heracles is a true friend.

This shows that if you were a hero in Ancient Greece, you had to really care about the people around you. You were kind and brave enough to risk your life to help out a friend. Heracles is obviously very passionate about his work and his friends and family. To be a hero you had to be selfless.

Heracles’ loyalty and strong bond with Admetus shows that he is a true friend.
I think that a larger idea of a hero in Greece is not only strength and the ability to defend others and yourself but you have to be brave enough to be loyal and truthful and devoted. You have to not only care for yourself but for others too. A hero in Ancient Greece is someone who goes out of their way to help others.

When Alcestis sacrifrices herself for the safety of Admetus, he is very greived with the face that his wife is no longer alive. Heracles, out of conicidence because he was searcing for the Horses of Diomedes, went to Admetus' palace, looking for hospitality and solace. Asking about Admetus' situation, Heracles is convinced that a foreign woman has sacrificed herself, but soon finds out that it was Alcestis. Heracles actually seems to take offence to the fact that Admetus would invite him inside of a greiving home, but soon gets over that and agrees to do anything that Admetus wishes of him. Like past blog post, this shows that Heracles is a very caring and noble companion to all those that he should be.

While examing heroic attricbutes, I discovered that (like other blogspot) being a hero also includes being a caring individual and praticing nobility. Heracles, without consent or request from Admetus, went to the grave of Alcestis. Being a hero in ancient Greece, on a scale of larger things, meant being noble and caring.

When Admetus is mourning over Alcestis sacrificing herself for him, Heracles brings her back to life by battling Death. He does it out of sympathy, which clearly shows that he cares very much about his friend. Even though Heracles is very powerful, it shows how he can also be kind and caring (without his temper, of course!).

Like we discussed in class today, being a hero is being able and willing to help others, even at the cost of your life. It's also saying that they can go out of their way to help or comfort someone that needs it. Heracles is showing that he cares about his friends. He did what he felt was right and went to bring Alcestis back to life without even asking Admetus. Like Oni said, you not only have to have the strength and the ability to help others but you also have to be devoted to helping others. Wanting to help someone is already heroic.

Heracles and Ametus are very close, they are like brothers. They watch out for each other, they show each other respect, and they have known each other for a long time. What it meant to be a hero in Greece was that the heros had to do heroic deeds for people. The heros had to be the son or daughter of a god in order for them to be a hero.

Heracles’ relationship with Admetus is the impenetrable bond of brothers. What this show’s about Heracles personality is that he never thinks he is better than anybody else because he is a hero and half immortal. When Admetus’s servant tells Heracles of Alcestus’s death, he sets a goal to bring her back. He wrestles with death, and is the first person to ever win: all that to bring back someone else’s wife. This is an example that Heracles is very caring and aware of others feelings.
To be a hero in ancient Greece, you couldn’t just be manly and tough; you also had to be kind and gentle. You had to think of others and be nice instead of being aloof and boastful. Heracles wasn’t forced to bring back his friend’s dead wife. He did it because he knew how much grief Admetus was in and had a burning desire to help. Heracles did something seemingly impossible, not out of servitude, but out of love.

Heracles' relationship with Admetus reveals that Admetus and Heracles are true friends. They were friends for a long time and have almost a bond between them. When Admetus had friends over for a feast he made sure Heracles was there and had what he needed to have. He gave Heracles a place to sleep and everything. It seems as thought they have each others back.

To be Hero in Greece expanded into saving people's lives. When Admetus didn't tell Heracles about Alcestis he goes to find her even when his friend didn't tell him. When he heard she died Heracles went to go save her. He had Admetus' back even when Admetus didn't tell him. That is why they are true friends and that is what it means to be a hero

Heracles and Admetus are very close friends. I think the fact that Admetus would take Heracles into his home even during his time of great mourning and that Heracles would bring his wife back shows that Heracles is a good friend and in return is respected by his friends.

I think part of being a hero in Greece was being respected and being respectful to others. Heracles was welcomed and celebrated at Admetus house even right after his wife had died. In return Heracles risked his life for Admetus’ happiness. This showed that the Greeks strongly believed in the value of friendship and that hero’s were people who always look out for their friends and the people around them.

Heracles' relationship with Admetus shows his positive and "heroic" qualities. Heracles does have many faults including not having much self-control, anger issues, and fame seeking. Yet Heracles also has a more "pure" side to him. His "pure" side has many more positive characteristics to it such as... Loyalty, follow through, and courage. Heracles' relationship with Admetus clearly demonstrates the loyalty and courage of Heracles. When Admetus' wife takes his place when death requests Admetus and dies. Heracles comes to visit, even though Admetus is mourning for his wife, he still invites Heracles into his home for merrymaking not wanting to sadden Heracles. Heracles grateful and admiring Admetus friendship with him, Heracles wrestles death so Admetus' wife can live again. This story demonstrates the courage and loyalty of Heracles.

The people of Greece believed that to be a hero you are closely related to the gods, because the gods are on your side and are allowing you the victory of you deeds. Greece also defined heroes as people who are not perfect, but have the courage to try to succeed in heroic deeds.

Heracles and Admetus have an extremely special relationship. Heracles helped him to accomplish a task set out by his wife's father to prove he was worthy of marrying her and thats how their friendship began. The next we hear of the the two of them is when Alcestis is already dead, but even then Admetus feeds him and gives him a place of rest.
When Heracles finds out from a servent of Admetus' he is outraged and goes to fight for Alcestis' soul himself. He literally battles with Death for Admetus' happiness. This is true friendship.
As we discussed in class, being a hero in Greek Legends (In my opinion) mearly means being a good person who is strong. If any good person had the chance to save someones life and another persons happiness, wouldnt they? Heracles was given a choice between be a Hero and being a Villian. When you area a son of Zeus, there is no in between.

Hi, its stef.
Heracles and Admetus are best friends. As far as the story tells us, their friendship is an extremely strong bond. They do great deeds for each other, and for every deed, there bond of friendship grows stronger. Heracles helped Admetus get his wife, by helping him complete the task his wife's father demanded of him. Admetus then fed Heracles, and gave him much wine when Heracles stopped by during one of his labors. Admetus is mourning his dead wife, Alcestis when Heracles comes to his kingdom, and though he is mourning, he still invited Heracles in. When Heracles found this out, he went out to the graveyard in which Alcestis was buried. Though he thought he was alone, he saw someone about to touch Admetus's dead wife with a sword. He recognized him as death, and they wrestled to see if Alcestis would remain dead, or if she would return to Admetus. Heracles won, returned Alcestis to Admetus. He shows that he is very brave and loyal to Admetus, showing that he is a hero. Another thing that it shows, is that Heracles will never let one of his friends loose something or someone they love without trying his best to help them get it back.

In Greece, there are many heroes, that slay monsters, and are basically the police force or a super hero. They slay monsters, and are usually half god. Heracles is the Sun of Zeus. A hero in ancient Greece is one who will do anything to save anything, be it a Person, a city, or even a god. The hero gains respect and friends all over the world, and in return, he saves them from all different kinds of dangers. The story of Admetus shows that Heracles his a hero, because Admetus is his friend, and when Admetus's wife dies, Heracles wrestles with death in order to get her back.

I think that Heracles, after helping Ademetus win the girl he loved, was an especially good friend of his. Their relationship became rather close after the marriage, and Heracles was a welcome member into Ademetus’s household. However, this soon changed when death came for Ademetus. Ademetus at this point was desperate and made a deal with death which he accepted. The deal was that if anyone was willing to die in Ademetus’s place, he would be let free. His wife, upon hearing this offered herself up to die in the place of her husband, Ademetus so that he may live. Ademetus tried everything in his power to persuade her not to do this, but her mind was set. Death soon took her, leaving Ademetus alone to grieve her passing. Heracles was told that it was not the wife of Ademetus the family was grieving, but a girl who was not related to the family at all. Heracles didn’t understand why the family was grieving over this strange girl, and spent the whole dinner trying to make him forget about her.

As the family was leaving for the funeral, Heracles realized that it was indeed the wife of Ademetus that had passed. He quickly made haste for the burial grounds. When he arrived, there was death himself, looming over the women with a deadly smile on his face, ready to cut off a lock of her hair, throwing her in the underworld, forever watched by Hates, lord of the underworld. Heracles stopped him, and suggested a fight, in an attempt to bring her back into the world and be returned to her husband. Death agreed, only to lose the match and was sent back down to Hates with nothing but his broken bones to show him.

I think this story shows that Heracles is not only a great hero, but that he is also capable of being a great friend. It also shows that he does not only put himself in a dangerous situation for himself, but for others as well. It shows that he really cares about people and not just getting his name heard all throughout Greece. Heracles is an amazing man. He is both a hero, and a man of friendship and love.

Heracles and Admetus are evidently very compatible. The passage even states that “Admetus honoured Heracles more highly than any of his friends, and moreover among the Greeks hospitality was one of the most sacred duties of a good man.” Heracles apparently serves not only the people of Greece, but his friends and allies along the way. He came across the path of Admetus’s palace and put a pause on his own quest given by Eurystheus and put his own life at stake to battle Death and save Admetus’s wife Alcestis from the clutches of Hades.
From what we have already seen of Heracles in our earlier reading of his first labors, it seems that to be a hero in ancient Greece meant one who can and does accomplish great feats to improve the land for the better. There is also the example of Perseus (Heracles’s grandfather in fact) who decapitated Medusa and slay the Kraken. Being a hero can also mean to come to others aid when they need it and being of servitude to the Olympians or other Greeks; such as Prince Cadmus did by tricking Typhon and giving Zeus his sinews back. This shows that heroes, even on amazing journeys, will always perform selfless acts for those in need. This is what Heracles did for Admetus by bringing back his wife.

The story of Admetus particularly emphasizes Heracles’s ability to make sacrifices for others while expecting nothing in return. A distinguished nobleman such as Admetus could easily lessen the burden of his labors and ensure Heracles’s happiness. However, Heracles knows that he cannot go against the will of the gods and ask for amenities and strives to complete his labors. It is because Heracles remains humble that he is able to conquer the nearly omnipotent force of death and ultimately complete his labors. If Heracles were to blindly attack death, he would incur the wrath of the gods and would have been punished severely. But Heracles does not seek to conquer or match the power of the god so he is spared. Also Heracles’s actions further contrast a virtuous life as upposed to a hedonistic one. It is because Heracles kills his wife that he must do well and expiate his sin. If he were to neglect his duties concerning repentance his would have been punished.

Heracles relationship with Admetus reveals that Heracles is not only a hero just to become an immortal, he chooses to help those around him. When Heracles had found out about Adtmetus' wife, and how he had still taken Heracles in during the time of grief, Heracles was astonished knowing that Admetus had been that kind. Heracles had thanked Adtmetus by reviving the life in his wife and ending the grief throughout the grief throughout the castle. Heracles had revealed a part of him that was caring and was helpful. Heracles had helped a friend in need get his wife whom he loved very much back to life. Heracles was not only physically a hero, but he had showed that he was a hero on the inside to.

In Greece, to be a hero was to be someone who had risked his or her life in order to save others. A lot of it was about the armor and fighting skills, but most of it was about the courage and the willingness to out others before them. Heroes had to be caring, not selfish, and strong in the mind and body. Heroes were the closest things to immortals, and because of this, Heroes were considered one of the best things to happen in Greece. Heroes were inspiring and had a feeling of safeness when being around them for many of the people of Greece.

In "The Story of Admetus" Heracles' relationship with Admetus reveals a whole other side of Heracles, completely different from the grieving, selfish, rough, fighter we have been reading about. In this story, after Heracles finds Admetus for hospitality, he finds out that Admetus' wife, Alcestis has recently died. This introduces a new, softer side of Heracles who cares for others and people that have meaning to him. In order to repay Admetus for all the good Admetus has done for him, with his own will, Heracles wrestles against 'Death' to get Alcestis to live again. Heracles risked his own life in order to bring happiness to others. He did a good deed out of his own choice and it showed that Heracles wasn't just a hero because he was strong but was also a hero because of his morals as well.

I think that Heracles depicts ancient Greece's general idea of a hero. From all the other readings we've done, we can tell that power is something that is very important and valued. Heracles is also half immortal, making him special and half-God and someone who would already be seen as strong and great. Adding to those features, I think that in Greece what it truly meant to be a hero was to know good from bad. We hear a lot about trickery, deceit, and greed and how many people fall into traps associated with these. Heracles was most importantly seen as a hero because unlike many, he chose the better path, for example virtue rather than vise and decided to help Admetus rather than let things be.

The relationship between Heracles and Admetus is very close. They seem like the kind of friends where one will do something for the other just because they love them. When Heracles heard that that Admetus’s wife had died he went and did what ever he could so that in the end could bring her back to life. Heracles did not ask for anything in return for his achievement. In ancient Greece a hero means to be someone that does good things for others and doesn’t give up until they have finished their task.

Heracles is very close with Admetus. they are great friends and have faith in each other. Admetus welcomed Heracles into his home, fed him a feast and gave him all the wine he desired. Heracles risked his life to fix a mistake that Admetus made. he brought back the girl that Admetus loved very much. this is what it means to be a hero. being a hero means that your fighting not only for yourself but for the people you love and want to be happy. Heracles knows that he is very strong and powerful and that he can get many things without much effort. fighting for something that does not need much effort means that the result will always be better and Heracles knows it.

Admetus and Heracles were good friends. "For you have proved a fair and kindle master, and I will reward you in any way I can." Admetus served as Heracles' servant but Heracles remained to treat him well. Heracles' also sacrifices his life to save Alcestis because he knows how much she means to Admetus. They are very understanding of each other and have a great amount of respect for each other.

To be a hero in ancient Greece you must do heroic deeds, regardless of if you want to or not. Heracles chose to sacrifice his life because of his generosity and the way he cared about Admetus. It shows that you should do nice deeds and you will feel good about yourself and the favors will be returned. It also shows that in Greece, friendship was very important.

Heracles’ relationship with Admetus shows that he is a truly a moral and loyal friend. It shows that Heracles had no trouble putting his life on the line for a good cause or for a friend. He wrestled with “Death” (which I would assume to be Thanatos-who was very strong) which was and still is an almost 100% guarantee that he would lose (and die). So we see that Heracles chooses to help a friend that is in grief. He realized that he was a bit brash and naive with Admetus about whom Admetus was mourning. In Heracles’ defense Admetus told him only that it was some “foreign woman” (a poor description of Alcestis).

Heracles was a great hero in Ancient Greece, if not the greatest of them all. He was the cookie-cutter example of what a hero in Ancient Greece should be. He was practically every bit as beautiful, strong, and skilled, (but not as wise) as the gods in mortal eyes. “He made the world safer for mankind.” The criteria for a hero consisted of being cunning and resourceful. It also meant having good-looks, muscles, a strong sense of morality, and being able to use weapons almost as skillfully as an immortal. And Heracles pretty much fit that criteria perfectly.

The fact the Heracles was willing to wrestle death and risk his life to get someone else wife back show that he is brave and he is also willing to be selfless and fight for the ones he loves and holds dear to his hart. It also shows that Admetus and Heracles’ relationship is very strong, he would do anything for Admetus not to be sorrowful.
I think that in this story a hero means someone who is selfless and brave and who is willing to give up his life for the lives and happiness of others.

Heracles seems to be very insightful, sensitive, and modest when it comes to his relationship with Admetus. Their relationship begins as Admetus offers up his hospitality, and lets Heracles stay at his house. Heracles realizes that Admetus is mourning, so kindly rejects his offer. Eventually, they bond, and Heracles plays the role of the listener, and the savior. He brings back Admetus' wife from the dead, and fights Death for his wife. Heroism in ancient greece is not only seen as having the ability to "save the day," as one might expect, but to have the ability to listen. Heracles clearly wants to pay attention to Admetus' needs, and also wants him to ultimately be happy. Although he is concerned with his own wellbeing, Heracles is also dedicated to keeping Admetus stable. Heroism entails the ability to pay attention to everyone's needs and feelings. One must be strong, but also be strong for others, and have the ultimate goal of keeping each person well. Heracles is not only strong, but dedicates himself to others.

Heracles's relationship with Admetus, shows that Heracles is very caring and strong character. In the beginning of the story the two become friends when Heracles is trying to help tame animals for Admetus to slay in order to win over Acestis' father and let them get married. In the beginning of the story, Heracles helps Admetus to get Acestis, and at the end of the story, he helps him to get Acestis back from deaths greeting. Literally. Basically the two have a strong bond and are willing to do things for each other.

The story gives the idea, that in Greece, heros not only had to be fearless, and brave etc, but they also had to be able to care for others. Heracles' and Admetus' are an example of that. It also shows that heros aren't perfect. Heracles has Admetus to rely on, which shows that heros can't always rely on themselves and once in a while may need someone to rely on because they can't always do things their selves. Another example of this, is in the story of Typhon, when Zeus looks upon a prince to partially help him defeat Typhon. The fact that heros have to be able to rely on others not only shows that they're not perfect, but that they have human-like qualities which also makes heros have a little but more in common with people who aren't heros.

Heracles relationship with Admetus shows how much of a caring person Heracles is. Even though Admetus lied to him, he still rescued his bride from Hades minion, Death. This relationship shows that not all figures who have godly powers are also evil in a sense. He is the savior to society. He isn't out there to destroy.

I feel that the larger ideas that are presented are that heroes much be well-respected, and have a high-reputation through good deeds. Not once did Heracles ever think about betrayal to his allies because of the great power he wields.
A hero is never lazy, always attempting the most difficult task. Heracles has never turned down a task because he feels that he can complete each one.

Heracles and Admetus seem to be close friends. This shows a warming side of Heracles. It shows Heracles being a loving, caring charecter. I think one important characteristic we learn about Heracles is his loyalty (as some people have said) and his faithfulness towards Admetus.

I think to be classified as a hero, comes down to how you interact with people in ancient greece. I believe ancient greece went by the notion/saying we still use today, and that is to treat people the way you want to be treated. Heracles seemed to have portrayed this notion effortlessly. Heracles was invited to Admetus's house after his wife passed. Heracles felt bad and jeopardized his life for Admetus’ happiness. This not only showed the notion of treating people the way you want to be treated but showed that the Greeks strongly believed in "giving more" and making people happy.

Heracles’ relationship with Admetus reveals his strong loyalty to this great friend. This story also reflects what it means to be a Greek hero. To be a Greek hero not only must you obey and honor the gods, but you must also represent mortals. In a world that is controlled by the gods, mortals are defenseless from the gods’ wraths. Heracles, however, plays a role of the protector of mortals. Heracles, although part immortal, helps his good friend Admetus a mortal by wrestling death back for Alcestis, Adepts’ wife. In the task Heracles is asked to kill beasts that others can’t kill. In doing some of these tasks, he saves mortals from these beasts, some of which were sent by the gods to scourge the land. Even though the gods ordered Heracles to do these great deeds, Heracles chose the path that resulted in saving mortals. Even on Heracles’ journey he does unnecessary tasks that help mortals, such as saving Alcestis and killing the sea monster sent by Poseidon.

Heracles relatonship with Admetus seems to be like one friend trying to impress the other. Heracles comes in search of hospitality the instant Alcestis had died. However Admetus acted as if nothing had been going on, even when Heracles asked what was happening, Admetus made it seem like nothing important just happened, his wife had not just died for him. Admetus lied about what was going on because he thought it would make him seem like a better host and when a god asks for hospitality, it is the mortal's job to make the god feel welcome. It seem that most heros or gods give gifts for mortals, to either make life better of worse. Heracles brought Alcestis back to life to make Admetus happier, so that there was no mourning. Sometimes to be a hero you have to make sacrifices. Heracles had wrestled with Death to get Alcestis' soul back to where it belonged.

Heracles relationship with Admetus shows that, even if he can be compulsive and headstrong, he has a sensitive side that has to do with his own honor and his respect for honorable men. Admetus helps him despite his wife’s death, because of his own sense of honor, and Heracles returns the favor.

The story is presenting the idea that being a hero in ancient Greece is largely about honor and about honesty. In ancient Greece, the most evil men were those who were inhospitable to guests, like King Diomedes. Diomedes was dishonest and dishonorable. Honor is important in this culture, because warriors are extremely valued in ancient Greece and one of their most important traits is their honor. Heracles is a hero, not just because he is as strong demigod but also because he embodies the idea of honor.

Heracles' relationship with Admetus is a very caring one. Heracles wanted to help Admetus because he was so sad that Alcestis died. Heracles shows that he is not like many heros; he is strong and brave but he can also be kind and caring. Having Admetus welcome Heracles while he is very sad and is mourning seemed shows that Admetus really wanted his help and would do this at anytime. Heracles is not always angry and rough, he can be gentle at times.

Being a hero in ancient Greece is having the willpower to go from angry, mean and strong to gentle, loving and caring. A hero has to be strong and brave but also needs to have a quality of being warmhearted. People in ancient Greece thought that heros had to be somewhat related to Gods. Also a hero is someone who risks their lives to save someone they may or may not know. They have to have the courage to beat up something strong and powerful. Heros are the ones who protect the city.

Heracles was really polite and respectful, and so are “noble Greeks”. Admetus was so kindly that he still let Heracles into his house even if his wife had died. He did not want to trouble Heracles with his grief. But Heracles was too caring when he saw that his friend was mourning so much, that he couldn’t resist the temptation to find out what actually happened, for he know that such a noble friend would know better than welcoming him this way. This tells that Greek heroes are not only very brave and obedient, but that they are also very respectful and caring.

Heracles has a very strong relationship with Admetus. they are almost like brothers. He has housed him and fed him. It shows that the tough warrior has a loving spot and likes to keep people close.

Coming back from a labor Heracles decides to stay at his house for a night, but what he didn't know was that due to a gift given by Apollo to wield his death to another death had taken his wife instead of planned parents. Upon hearing this hearing this Heracles takes off and goes to rescue the maiden by wrestling with death for her life.

This shows just how strong and how heroic Heracles is. and shows a lot about what it means to be a hero. To wrestle with death is a feat of bravery, audacity, and danger, but to win is a feat of strength, cunning, and pure awesomeness. so to be a hero is to go above and beyond the call of duty for a task that involves not only yourself but a group.

Heracles relationship with Admetus shows the reader that Heracles is a good friend as well as a good person. Heracles fights death - a figure and truth that at one or more points in their life, almost everyone has been afraid of. Heracles, from before this point, has looked like the kind of guy that did things for looks or in his case, because he was destined and forced to. He only fights death because he knows it will make his friend feel complete again. When you can save someone from dying when no one else can, and you do save them, you are not only a hero on the outside, but a true hero in the inside. He knows that this is not something he was destined for, but he also knows that when he has a chance of helping someone this much, it is destined.

Heracles’ relationship with Admetus shows how loving and nice he is to a friend and how loyal he is. Heracles had helped Admetus a lot at the same time as Admetus helping him little, so it seems that Admetus would owe Heracles a lot, but instead Heracles helped Admetus even more.
Heracles came to Admetus’ home one day to see that everyone in the house was mourning. Admetus told Heracles that a foreign woman was dying and not to worry, so Heracles ate what he was fed, but when he was finished he asked a servant to tell him why everyone was mourning and the servant said that the princess Alcestis was dying in place of Admetus. So Heracles went to Alcestis’ grave and saw death and Death made a deal with him, if Heracles won in a wrestling match against death he would get the woman back. Heracles won the match and brought Alcestis back to Admetus and told him what happened, Admetus was much joyed, and Heracles did not accept a prize.
This story shows that Heracles is very friendly and will do nice things for no cost. It also shows that Heracles and Admetus have a “Tight” relationship. The story also shows that Ancient Greeks believed that a hero does not expect a prize for doing good things.
